About this Event
Midterms got you feeling down? Need some help for your next big essay? Want to know how to write professional emails to future employers? Come to these weekly writing workshops and improve your writing skills.
First Year Experience and the Writing Fellows of the Writing Center are bringing you 5 different workshops to help sharpen your skills. These workshops will be held on Thursdays and Fridays starting on October 22 to November 20. All students are welcome.
Schedule:
10/22 and 10/23, Professional Email Communication w/ Stephanie
Let’s talk about crafting appropriate content as you send and reply to emails both academically and professionally. Bring your questions, frustrations, tips, or horror stories related to electronic communication.
10/29 and 10/30, Being Creative in Academic Writing w/ Ken
In this workshop, we will learn how to choose more powerful verbs and adjectives for our academic writing. We will also devise more creative and immersive ways to execute the standard moves we employ in these kinds of papers.
11/5 and 11/6, Back to Basics w/ Amanda
Bogged down by a lot of grammar rules? Confused on what actually IS an essay? Attend this workshop where we will discuss the more basic (but necessary) elements of essay writing, which can be used across all disciplines and majors.
11/12 and 11/13, Citing Effectively and Avoiding Plagiarism w/ Mike
Frustrated about your research assignment? Confused about why you should quote, when you should paraphrase, or exactly what “plagiarism” means you can’t do with sources? Come to this interactive session on citation — and bring along questions or drafts you want help with!
11/19 and 11/20, Comma Use w/ Steve
Why are you neglecting your comma? Attend the workshop and find out how to love, not abuse, your comma! Free comma counseling!
