#makingitJoin us for Making It!, an ongoing series featuring visiting artists talking about their work, careers, and their experiences 'making it' in the arts. On February 20th, hear from fiber artist and Dean of Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts Ann Clarke.
Originally from Rochester, NY, Ann is a fiber artist who received an MFA from Rhode Island School of Design and bachelor of fine arts degree in painting and printmaking from the University of Michigan. She has spent the majority of her professional career in academia as a higher education administrator and faculty member at Syracuse University. Ann finds beauty in ordinary motifs that express intensity and caring. She works exclusively in textiles, which embody the history of the home, and domestic space. Textiles have an intimacy with our bodies and how we experience the world. Ann's materials are made from nature, transformed by her hands into pieces that possess a particular substance and physicality that is critical to her. These have been foundational constructs on which she has built her work.
