DESCRIPTION:RCA Reflections are invited talks about ecology and the environ
 ment\, free and open to all to join. This talk will be delivered in a hybr
 id format: in-person at Rice Creek Field Station or via Zoom (see Dial-In 
 Instructions below).\n\n \n\nTalk Description\n\nFrom the late 1800s to th
 e early 1900s a major educational reform took place regarding how children
  should be taught. Called the Nature Study Movement\, its purpose was to t
 each science using the outside environment. It was believed that this woul
 d foster a love for nature while developing a sense of responsible citizen
 ship. Nature Study today means different things to different people - from
  being self-taught to enjoying a guided nature walk.\n\n \n\nSpeaker\n\nPa
 ul Knitted holds an M.Ed degree from Syracuse University and an MS degree 
 in Environmental Science from SUNY-ESF. During his varied career\, he has 
 held the roles of elementary school teacher\, nature columnist\, Public In
 formation Officer at the Environmental Protection Agency\, Manager of the 
 Northeastern Region for the American Forest Council\, and Program Director
  at Baltimore Woods Nature Center. He currently serves as an adjunct colle
 ge biology instructor and a Rice Creek Associates board member\, assisting
  with Facebook postings.\n\n \n\nTransportation\n\nFree parking is availab
 le by the field station building. \n\n \n\nAbout RCA\n\nRice Creek Associa
 tes (RCA) is a community of like-minded people who share a passion for nat
 ure and a desire to support Rice Creek Field Station. Formed in 1986\, RCA
  supports Rice Creek Field Station's mission by expanding the scientific\,
  educational and recreational opportunities at the Field Station through c
