Enjoy a poetry slam at Lake Effect Cafe with an open mic facilitated by the Laker Poets Society. What is a poetry slam? A poetry slam is a competition where poets are judged by select members of the audience. Poetry slams are loud, vibrant events where audience members are encouraged to interact with the performance. A poetry open mic facilitated by the Laker Poets Society will take place during the intermission. Contact lakerpoets@oswego.edu to participate in the open mic.
Rules:
1. Poets must perform original work.
2. No props or costumes.
3. Poems must be completed within the time limit. The time limit for this slam is 3 minutes with a grace period of 10 seconds. Poets will be penalized 0.5 points for every 10 seconds they go over the limit.
4. Poems may not include any racist, sexist, homophobic or transphobic language.
5. Memorization is not required.
6. Poets must be students.
The slam will have two rounds. In the event of a tie, poets will read a third additional poem.
If you are interested in competing or have questions or require accommodations, contact Albert Abonado at albert.abonado@oswego.edu
