Learn about contemporary South Korea and its place in global politics. Students will study and visit Seoul, South Korea (currently a global city) and Busan and Jeju Island (cultural cities). Seoul gained its global city status under the careful economic development policies of an authoritarian government in the historical context of the Cold War.

Students will examine development strategies and outcomes for the regions and also their impacts on global culture. The second focus is on public diplomacy, cultural globalization and the K-wave. Students will examine the spread and influence of K-pop, K-dramas, animation, etc. to global culture.
