Craig Graci (retired faculty member from the Computer Science Department) will tell a story of how he found his way to painting colored shapes, lots of them, in ways that, for the most part, represent musical melodies. In doing so he will say a few words about chromesthesia, and he will reference bits of research on cognitive musicology and the computational microworlds that inspired his approach to chromesthetic painting.

He will detail how music is encoded in his paintings, he will discuss aspects of his computationally supported painting process, and he will present a selection of his paintings by means of images and sound files, including a very recently completed work based on Pachelbel’s famous canon, which is destined to hang in the Computer Science Department office.

All are welcome to join us for this event!  Campus visitors will need to get a parking pass, visit the Parking Office for more information. Contact Elizabeth Wilcox with questions about the event.
