Professor Hui Zhang (ECE) brings us this installment of Science Today, addressing her research towards developing an answer to:  "Today we are living in the Silicon Age preceded by the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, and the Iron Age ... What will come next?"

Silicon semiconductor technology is the basis for many revolutionary changes in our lives in the past half a century and although the technology is only about half a century old, rapid progress has pushed it to the technology limits imposed by the silicon materials. As a branch of the silicon semiconductor technology, silicon power electronics (semiconductor technology especially for power applications) is experiencing the same wave. This Science Today presentation will introduce power electronics, specifically wide the benefits of bandgap power electronics over silicon counterparts, and the development of wide bandgap power electronics -- including a brief overview of the wide bandgap power electronics research at Oswego and student involvement.

Everyone is welcome to attend this event, sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, but registration is required.  (Registration Link)
