Stories help us understand each other, build community, and gain insight into the journeys people have embarked on. Yelping Forward — A Path Made Clear is an event that will feature Justin Norman’s story about his path to leadership. Through his challenges, successes, and professional highlights, we will hear about Justin’s journey as a person of color in the tech industry.

Speaker: Justin Norman: Justin is the vice president of Data Science at Yelp. He is a career data professional and data science leader with experience in multiple industries and companies. Previously, Justin was the director of Research and Data Science at Cloudera Fast Forward Labs, head of Applied Machine Learning at Fitbit, the head of Cisco’s Enterprise Data Science Office and a Big Data Systems engineer with Booz Allen Hamilton. Justin also served as a Marine Corps Officer, with a focus in Systems Analytics and Device Intelligence. He is a graduate of the US Naval Academy with a degree in Computer Science and earned a master’s degree in Business Administration and Business Analytics from the University of Southern California.

Moderators: Brittany Jones: As a technical recruiter at Yelp, Brittany supports the Engineering organization. With over five years of experience in full lifecycle recruiting, she is passionate about building strong relationships with hiring managers and candidates, creating ways to refine processes, and organizing events that help cultivate diversity and inclusion in the workplace. In both her role as a recruiter and as a member of the employee resource group ColorCoded, Brittany is committed to growing diversity within Yelp and providing a place for people to gather and learn about the stories of underrepresented communities.

Monet Galamay: Monet is a technical recruiter that supports the Product organization at Yelp. She brings nearly 10 years of experience building strong relationships with candidates, hiring managers, creating process improvements, and fostering diversity and inclusion in the workplace. With a bachelor’s degree in Ethnic Studies, Monet has a breadth of knowledge that contributes to many strategic enhancements to the Engineer Recruiting team. Always tenacious, authentic, and determined when taking on complex challenges, she brings a passion and intentionality to everything she does and continues to show promise.
